(1) Rs 54                                    (2) Rs 52
(3) Rs 50                                    (4) Rs 60

Answers with Explanation:
            1. (4)            Let C's share be Rs x.
            Then, B gets =0.75 x.
            A gets = 1.25×0.75x
            x+0.75x+0.9375x=731
            2.6875x=731
            x=7312.6875 =272

            2. (1)            SP=Rs15000
            SP after 10% discount= 15000-10%of15000
            = 15000-1500=Rs13500
            Profit on SP= 8%
            CP= 13500108 ×100=Rs 12500

            3. (3)            CI=10000[{(1110 )×(1110 )×(1110 )×(1110 )}-1]

            4.  (4)
            If the average is increased by 3 kg, then sum of weights
            increases  by 3 x 4 = 12 kg .
            And this increase in weight is due to the extra weight included
            due to the inclusion of  new person.
            Weight of new man = 120 + 12 = 132 kg.
            5(2)            (B+C)'s 1 day work= 18  ...(i)
            (A+B)'s 1 day's work= 112  ...(ii)
            (A+C)'s 1 day's work = 116  ...(iii)
            On adding all these three equations,
            2(A+B+C)'s one day's work = 18 +112 116 = (6+4+3)48 =1348
            (A+B+C)'s one day's work= 1396
                ∴A, B and C can complete the work in 9613 =7 513

            6. (3)
            Speed of the tractor= distance/ time
            =57523 =25kmph
                ∴speed of bus= 50kmph
                ∴speed of car= 95 ×50=90kmph
                ∴distance covered by the car in 4 hours= 4×90=360km

            7. (4)
            Work done by the leak in 1 hour = (12 -37) = 114
                ∴leak will empty the tank in 14 hours.

            8(4)
            CP of mixture = (20*2+30*3)2+3 =26
            SP of the mixture = 1.1×26=28.6

            9.(4)
            Let the present ages of Anju and Sandhya be 13x and 17x years
             respectively.
                ∴13x-417x-4 =1115
            =>187x-44=195x-60
            =>195x-187x=60-40
            =>x=2
                ∴Required ratio= (13×2+6):(17×2+6)
            =4:5

            10.       (4)
            CP of wheat= 30×45=Rs1350
            40% of 30kg =12kg
            SP of 12kg = 12×50 = Rs 600
            For 25% profit, total SP of all the wheat is 1350×125100
            =Rs 1687.5
            Remaining wheat (30-12) = 18kg
             Rate of remaining wheat = 1087.518 ≈Rs60

(a) 50/3
(b) 25
(c) 20
(d) 20/3

Answers:

1. (a)
Let the total amount be x.
C’s original share = 3x / 6 = x / 2
C’s new share = 2x / 9
Now
(x / 2) – (2x / 9) = 60
x = 216

2. (d)
Gaurav’s marks in A = 83
Gaurav’s marks in B = 75% of 120 = 90
Now
(83 + 90 + x) / 360 * 100 = 80
x = 115

3. (c)
No. of erasers > No of pencils > No of pens
Possible combinations
Erasers = 11, Pencils = 8, Pens = 7
OR
Erasers = 10, Pencils = 9, Pens = 7

4. (c)
Let the shares of A and B be 5x and 6x. Now
5x + 6x = 31394
x = 2854
Required difference = (3 * 5)x – (2 * 6)x = 3x = 8562

5. (b)
Let the numbers be x, x + 1 and x + 2. Now
x + (x + 1) + (x + 2) = 2475
x = 824
Required number = 35% of 824 = 288.4

6. (d)
Let the three numbers be x, x+2 and x+4. Now
* (x + 2) (x + 4) = 2688
x = 12
So the numbers are 12, 14 and 16.
Required number = 5 * 14 = 70

7. (d)
Sum of the ages of 4 members 5 years ago = 106 years
Sum of the ages at present if there was no change in family = 106 + 5 * 4 = 126
Sum of the ages after the daughter is replaced by daughter-in-law = 108
Difference in the age of the daughter and the daughter in law = 126 – 108 = 18

8. (a)
(10 – x) / (14 - x) = (14 - x) / (20 - x)
x = 2

9. (d)
Required probability =

10. (d)
Let the work to be done = 24 units
Work done by A and B in one day = 6 units
Work done by B and C in one day = 4 units
Work done by A and C in one day = 3 units
Work done by all three (A, B and C) in two days = 6 + 4 + 3 =13 units
Work done by all three (A, B and C) in one day = 13/2 = 6.5 units
Work done by A alone in one day = 6.5 – 4 = 2.5 units
Work done by C alone in one day = 6.5 – 6 = 0.5 units
Ratio of efficiencies of A and C = 2.5 : 0. 5 = 5 : 1
Ratio of time taken by them to complete the work alone = 1 : 5

11. (a)
Required sum = 373 +352+ 360 = 1085

13. (d)
Total number of females in 2009 = 125 + 184 + 345 + 286 + 116 = 1056
Total number of females in 2010 = 100 + 210 + 360 + 290 + 170 = 1130
