National & International Appointment
1. Rajan Anandan appointed chairman of IAMAI
- Rajan Anandan has been appointed as the new chairman of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
- Currently, Mr. Anandan is the vice-president of Google for South East Asia and India.
- He will succeed Kunal Shah (co-founder and chief executive officer FreeCharge).
- The vice-chairman of IAMAI will be Deep Kalra (Chairman of MakeMyTrip).
- Subho Ray will continue to be the president of IAMAI.
Note:
- IAMAI is a not-for-profit industry body registered under the Societies Act, 1986.
- Its aim is to improve and expand the value-added services pertaining to mobiles and several online services.
National Affairs
2. India, Mauritius sign four agreements including bilateral maritime security
- India and Mauritius have signed four agreements (in the field of education, training, and research) after delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Mauritius counterpart Pravind Kumar Jugnauth in New Delhi.
- The bilateral Maritime Security Agreement will further strengthen mutual cooperation and capacities between the two nations.
- The agreements extending a 500-million Dollar line of credit to Mauritius.
3. Centre bans sale & purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter
- The union environment and Forests ministry has notified new rule, banned the sale and purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter by notifying a stringent Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules 2017 under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
- The rules prohibit the sale of cattle for slaughter at animal markets, effectively barring this nationwide, including in states such as Kerala which allow the slaughter of cows.
- The member secretary of an animal market committee will have to ensure that no person brings a young animal to the animal market.

4. Former Punjab DGP KPS Gill passes away
- Former DGP of Punjab KPS Gill (82-year) passed away in Delhi.
- Gill had served twice as the DGP of Punjab and credited with bringing insurgency under control in Punjab.
- In 1989, Gill was awarded the Padma Shri for his work in the civil service.
- Gill was also president of the Institute for Conflict Management and president of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF).

5. NASA’s Juno spacecraft discovers earth-sized storms on Jupiter
- Juno spacecraft of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has discovered Earth-sized cyclones at the poles of the Jupiter and unveiled the presence of the storm systems that travel deep into the heart of the planet.
- The Juno spacecraft flew for about 4,200 kms of Jupiter’s swirling cloud top.
- The findings were the result of the Juno probe’s first data-collection.
- The findings suggest the presence of ammonia clouds over the planet which are quite variable and continue to increase up to a few hundred miles or kilometres.

- The Union Minister Kiren Rijiju unveils world's first philosophical novel on God in New Delhi.
- Haulianlal Guite (IAS officer from Manipur) has published a book titled "Confessions of a dying mind: the blind faith of atheism"
- The book is touted as "the world’s first philosophical novel for God".

8. Taj Mahal ranks 5th on top 10 global landmarks
- The 'Taj Mahal' has become the Indian monument to figure in the world's top 10 Travellers' Choice awards for Landmarks.
- The historic monument Taj Mahal has ranked at the fifth position in the list.
- The top spot clinched by the world’s largest religious monument 'Angkor Wat' in Cambodia.
- The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra.
- It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
